Empowering Communities Through Funded Support

Thanks to new funding and ongoing community partnerships, we’re excited to offer enriching, no-cost or low-cost fitness programs tailored to seniors and youth. From physical to cognitive health, these programs are designed to support Black communities and build a lasting impact.

About The Program

In partnership with the Durham Region Association of Black Professionals and Entrepreneurs (DRABPE), and funded by the Government of Canada’s Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative (SBCCI).

Functional Mind and Body is proud to offer fully supported training opportunities through this 10-month initiative. Both youth and senior-focused sessions are available to qualifying organizations in the community.

Available Programs

For Seniors:

Dementia Resilience (4 Half-Day Sessions)

A focused, interactive seminar addressing dementia awareness, care techniques, and personal wellness

10 Week Fitness & Brain Training Program

One weekly session that promotes mobility, cognitive function, and overall well-being.

Programs Included:

Seniors Boxing & Brain Fitness

A fun, engaging workout that challenges both the body and the mind.

Seniors Seated & Floor Mobility

Gentle yet effective exercises to move better and think sharper.

Balance & Fall Prevention

Stay steady and stay safe. Empower yourself with proactive fall prevention.

Resistance Training

Build strength, boost confidence, and stay active as you age.


For Youth:

10 Week Fitness & Wellness Program

A full-body program that builds strength, discipline, and self-confidence in a positive, structured environment.

Programs Included:

Brain & Body Obstacle Fitness

A modular course designed to get kids and youth moving, thinking and working together.

Youth Mobility

Led by a certified kinesiologist and personal trainer, this session focuses on increasing flexibility and joint mobility while introducing mindful movement strategies.

Youth Non-Contact Boxing

This high-energy session pairs full-body drills with cognitive challenges to build focus, resilience and physical confidence.

The Corner Project – Mentorship Program

A 10-Stage Journey to Confidence and Character.

This two-phase mentorship experience combines movement, reflection, and life lessons to empower youth through personal development. Encourages open discussion, goal setting, and team building.


Participation Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 participants, maximum of 20 per session
  • At least 50% of attendees must identify as Black
  • Host organizations must provide an accessible space
  • Programs are available on a first-come, first-served basis during the 10-month grant period
